For more than a century, saxophone engraving has been a hallmark of craftsmanship. The earliest horns carried floral patterns cut by hand, each one unique to the artisan behind the tool. These engravings were never just decoration - they were a maker’s signature, a mark of pride, and a promise of quality.

While many brands have turned to laser and machine engraving for speed and repetition, something vital is lost when a machine takes over. Hand engraving breathes soul into the instrument - depth, character, and a sense of life that can only come from the human hand.
The Duke takes around seven hours to engrave by hand, with remarkable precision and consistency throughout. It’s a painstaking process, guided by artistry rather than automation, that gives every instrument a depth and character a machine simply can’t replicate.

The Baron's engraving began with walks around London, looking for inspiration in the city's architecture and the art within the Tate galleries.
Look closely and you can trace the shape of a Gothic cathedral window among the flowing scrollwork. Architectural details and impressions gathered in the galleries helped shape a design with a distinctly London character.
Those initial ideas were then developed, finished and refined by an artist in London, bringing the inspiration together into the artwork shown here.
